Guam Native Introduces The World To Gourmet Chamorro Pancakes And Waffles

May 16, 2013: 12:00 AM EST
A native of Guam has created a business in San Diego, Calif., selling a gourmet pancake and waffle mix based on an old Chamorro recipe. The mix marketed by Elaine Babauta’s SweetStacks Inc. since 2007 can be found online and in restaurants and stores in the San Diego area, and someday in stores in Guam. When blended with wet ingredients (i.e., eggs, milk, butter), the mix becomes a fluffy pancake batter that is “distinctly different from what you normally find on store shelves”. For one thing, it is so sweet, there is no need for syrup. And it is versatile enough to use for other kinds of treats. The company recently introduced a blueberry flavor version containing whole fruit.
