Kraft Patents Technology For Tooth-Whitening Gum

December 6, 2012: 12:00 AM EST
Tooth whitening peroxide solutions typically have been delivered in gel form because of interaction problems with other types of compounds. Now Kraft has developed a tooth-whitening chewing gum that encapsulates solid peroxide in the gum base. After conducting successful human tests, the company filed a patent for the technology. The tests showed that a combination of 4 percent carbamide peroxide and 4 percent sodium tripolyphosphate achieved a whitening increase that allows the manufacturer to legally claim that chewing the gum “results in two shades whiter teeth to the user.”
