Unilever Will Sell More Food Business Units, CEO Says

Unilever will sell more food business units as part of its focus on personal care products and emerging markets, according to company chief executive officer Paul Polman. Economic slowdown has affected its food sales, about 60 percent of which come from developed markets such as the United States and Europe. In 2011, food was Unilever’s only business that posted a decline in sales; shipments declined 1.2 percent in the first nine months of 2012. Despite Unilever’s efforts to shift more food sales to developing markets, the slowdown in food business continues, Polman said.
